Western Azerbaijan Community

In Armenia, the unfounded campaign surrounding the recent visit of foreign diplomats to Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation shows no sign of abating. Such a reaction, which undermines the peace and normalization process between the two countries, demonstrates that Armenian society still has serious reservations about fully abandoning the notorious policy of “Miatsum,” recognizing Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, and living in conditions of peaceful coexistence. The “Real Armenia” concept put forward by the Armenian authorities is, in practice, undergoing a serious crisis.

In recent days, we have once again witnessed approaches based on fabricated history, invented antiquity, and national exceptionalism coming to the fore in Armenian society. Denying the history and culture of the Azerbaijani people, a nation with a great history and rich cultural heritage, is fundamentally misguided and dangerous. As President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized on September 15, while receiving religious leaders from a number of foreign countries, the Azerbaijani people have contributed such outstanding figures and thinkers as Nizami Ganjavi, Khagani Shirvani, Nasimi, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, Shah Ismail Khatai, and Fuzuli to world culture.

It is precisely such toxic ideology and approaches that have drawn Armenia, particularly over the past 30 years, into the policy of “Miatsum,” creating the conditions for the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis from Armenia, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, and the deliberate destruction of cultural heritage, including mosques. It is clear to everyone what consequences this policy has brought for the Armenian state and the Armenian people.

The Western Azerbaijan Community calls on Armenian society not to repeat the mistakes of the past, to put an end to attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, to fully recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, and to refrain from provocative actions that regularly cause justified discontent in Azerbaijan.
